William M. Esposo resumes his column "As I Wreck this Chair" for The Philippine STAR after a 20-year pause. Billy's clear-minded and perceptive analysis of issues has been honed by his long years of experience as a political strategist, communicator and personal involvement in milestone events that stirred the country.
Billy received the call to patriotism in the critical months preceding the February 1986 Snap Elections where he organized and became the Director-General of Cory Aquino's Media Bureau.
In 1987, President Cory Aquino appointed Billy as Assistant Secretary of Local Government, working with the late Secretary Jaime Ferrer.
Billy eventually became the Director-General of the Philippine Information Agency (PIA).
In 1989, Billy was appointed president of RPN-9. After three years, Billy dramatically turned around the network from its P18 million a month sales and by the time he left in 1992, RPN-9 was pushing an unprecedented gross sales of P60 million a month.
In July 1999, Billy, along with a group of involved men and women formed COPA (Council on Philippine Affairs) a broad coalition to preserve the gains of the EDSA People Power Revolution. Billy conceptualized COPA and was its Chairman until he left the civil society group in November 2003. It was Billy who crafted the communications plan for the Juetengate expose of Chavit Singson.
Prior to his return to STAR, Billy wrote a widely read column - High Ground - for INQ7.
A third generation MacGregor - the letter M in his middle name - Billy represents the Clan Gregor Society of Scotland in the Philippines and Southeast Asia.
